Venue Description
A division of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, the head offices of the Arts and Culture Centres are located in the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre. Committed to excellence and presenting the best to patrons, the Arts and Culture Centres offer a wide variety of programming from the best that Newfoundland has to offer to diverse artists from across Canada and abroad.
The St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre was opened on May 22, 1967. The Centre houses a 983 seat proscenium Main Theatre, a 75 seat black box Basement Theatre, children, adult and reference libraries, rehearsal rooms, and administration offices.
The A.C. Hunter Public Library, the A.C. Hunter Children’s Library, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Music Media and Place (MMAP) office, and Provincial Historic Sites are all located in the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre.
