Venue Description
Located in the building historically known as Cochrane Street United Church, this venue is dedicated to the creation, curation and exhibition of traditional and contemporary art in inclusive and accessible spaces in downtown St. John’s. Featuring a well-resourced 500-seat concert hall, a flexible event space, art studio, commercial kitchen, and in-house production staff, the Centre for Performance and Creativity aims to provide valuable resources to artists of all walks of life, working together in the spirit of friendship.
The Centre offers flexible rates for independent artists and non-profit arts initiatives, as well as in-kind resources and services for Indigenous artists. First Light produces a variety of concerts, workshops, programs and community events each year, such as the Songs and Stories concert series, Spirit Song Festival, and arts and culture programs such as Community Culture Circle, Wisdom Circle, and Craft program.
In 2023, First Light’s efforts were acknowledged with a nomination for the ECMA Venue of the Year award, and a MusicNL award for Venue of the Year.
